"420"

The month of April has arrived and she has made quite the entrance already here on the homestead. All the fruit trees are budding and the almond, plum and cherry trees are in full bloom. Our cover crop has skyrocketed, and because of the topography of our land, there are subtle differences in their heights depending on the location of the garden. The chickens are out and about and eager for those greens, but we are lovingly shooing them away with the promise of a future feast. We still haven’t gotten our goats (we talk about it every year!) and all that brush that needs to be devoured for fuel reduction (and to not be consumed alive!) always makes us wish we were more ready for that commitment. This time of year though is one of awe, as it’s incredible to see how quickly nature moves from winter to spring.
Though the fourth month of the year brings blossoms and a buzz to all of life’s beings, it also is the month for celebrating bud. Yep, that’s right. Bud. Weed. Marijuana. Cannabis. At this time in history, the entire month begs for cannabis celebration as individuals and local businesses start promoting the celebration and sales of this beloved plant. But the big day in April that is notoriously known in and around the cannabis circle is “420”; a phrase coined by a group of local California boys from San Rafael High School in the fall of ‘71 known as the “Waldo’s.” They’d meet up after school and football practice and smoke a joint at their school’s Louis Pasteur statue at (you guessed it) 4:20pm. The group’s private lexicon made it to the Grateful Dead’s band circle, and continued straight to the 1990s where it was placed on a flier at a Dead show suggesting people to “meet at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing in Marin County at the Bolinas Ridge sunset spot on Mt. Tamalpais” (How pot holiday 4/20 came to be | PBS News). It was picked up and published in High Times magazine and the rest is not only history, but a holiday. People from all around the world and all walks of life celebrate April 20 (4/20) with cannabis, community, and activism.

Here at Alpenglow Farms we have a few things to celebrate this April too. Our long time business partners and dear friends Eli and Noah own Solful and they are having a HUGE celebration that starts 4/11 and goes straight through till 4/20 (https://solful.com/420-2025/). Solful is dropping yet another exclusive gift bag this Friday (4/18), where you’ll find a five pack of pre-rolls featuring our “Cherry Cocktail” (Molotov Cocktail X Cherry Valley Glow) and all three locations will have in store specials, free food, and music to celebrate our beloved “420” this Sunday 4/20.
And what else can you find of ours at Solful during this month’s celebrations? Our Double OG Headband flower was saved for this celebration as it stood out from the rest as a stellar micro batch grown solely for a special occasion. Solful’s full gram Solventless Vape Cartridges dropped 4/11 and containing only live rosin are home to our Guava Glow, Moroccan Peaches, and Papaya Bomb (they are delicious!). And Solful’s beloved hand rolled “hash holes” featuring our Guava Gift (1.5grams of our flower and 0.5grams of our live rosin, both Guava Gift!) will also be available. So much to celebrate and so much to taste and enjoy. Craig and I will be in the San Francisco Solful store this 4/20 celebrating “420” with the Solful team and community. We’d love to see you so stop by and let’s celebrate this beautiful plant and this beautiful journey. Those boys known as the “Waldo’s” would be proud knowing their phrase made history, but also this plant. To be openly recognized, respected and celebrated in all her forms continues to bring us joy and hope for the future. Thank you to all the individuals, farmers, brands, and retailers who continue to support this plant and the people who produce it. We are so grateful for you. Now where’s that Guava Gift……
